the cloven viscount

Italo Calvino

Editorial Design I Project

In the war between Austria and Turkey (1716), Medardo of Terralba, the viscount, was struck by a Turkish cannon ball, splitting his existence into two. The allegorical condition of the man reflects the inability to reach integrity and completeness. As such, this special edition of the story, among cropped, black and white pages, and feelings of anguish translated by rough and/or serious characters, clustered in text columns varying in form depending on the aura hovering the story, helps telling one of the most fascinating tales of the incredible author Italo Calvino.
