Communication Design V Project

This project was conceived under the theme of modern populism and the relation between the press coverage (at a European level) and the way it explains and explores events like Brexit and the appearance of personalities such as Geert Wilders, Marine Le Pen, Viktor Órban, Frauke Petry, etc. For this, eight European and international (American) journalistic media were chosen in order to provide a selection of news titles which refer, in any perspective, to populism, between 13th February and 6th May.

This study resulted in a chord diagram that exposes the density of the relation between the media, their absorption of recent events, and the editorial line of each medium. The subsequent interpretation of the diagram produced new knowledge which allowed for an analysis of the general interests of the European people in regard to a populist wave, using the media as a barometer.
