Narcissus and Goldmund, the romance of Hermann Hesse, follows the journey of Goldmund, an eighteen year old boy who had just arrived on the Maria-Bronn convent. In the convent, he meets Narcissus, a cult, rational novice possessing a high degree of erudition, unlike Goldmund, a dreamer ruled by emotion, sensitivity, and pleasure. This publication aims to expose the duality between the rational and the emotional that follow the narrative, tracing the division between the before, during, and after the moment Goldmund leaves the convent and faces the chaos of profane life.
